Transnational Memoryscapes Switzerland Turkey

Who remembers? What is remembered? How is it remembered? Where is it remembered?

In search of answers to these questions, students from the University of Basel followed the traces of memory of migration from Turkey to Basel as part of a seminar. This resulted in six video and audio works in which the people portrayed not only open the doors to their life stories, but above all to the neighbourhoods, streets and schools that shaped them.

However, the exhibition not only traces stories of migration in an urban context, but also creates space for other memories: For example, visitors to the ‘Office for Migration Stories’ are given the opportunity to tell their own immigration biography, which they will write on site together with authors. The storytellers then decide for themselves what to do with their stories. They can take them home for themselves and/or continue writing them themselves. However, they can also give them to the archive of the Musée imaginaire des migrations MIM and later make them accessible to the public via the MIM website.
